It is all over the news. Finally, Congress and the government of the Philippines had the balls to pass a bill that would ostensibly go against the interests of big pharmaceutical companies in the country. The law is long overdue. Many preventable deaths have occured because of the absence of this law, which has been adopted in many countries as early as a decade ago. Despite the claimed success, not all are joyously celebrating. Including this writer.

When I was a kid, we used to play this game where we do a parody of the famous US television game show “The Price is Right.” That was a time of childhood innocence and we usually let the losing bidder eat rice as much as he/she can until he/she gives up. It was hilarously funny then to do such a thing to a playmate. It is deplorable, if not immoral, now.

This is the time of the year when commencement exercises are done. A time when crucial decisions are made, both by incoming college students and incoming “employees”. What college program to take asks the high school graduate. What type of career to pursue – and where – asks the college graduate.
Of Reading Books and Reading Folks

It’s not the first time I have been accused of favoring books over some folks. Short of saying I am anti-social, reclusive, and totally detach from mundane happenings around me, friends and acquaintances often tease me for spending more time reading than socializing (which I always beg to differ). Whenever this happens, I retort that most of the time I find books worthier of my time than many people. Ha!
