This Page is Dedicated to issues, concerns, and topics related to the expected candidacy of Senator Mar Roxas for the Philippine Presidency in 2010. Ever since I got wind of the possibility that Mar Roxas will be running for the presidency, I have been thinking on how, as a private individual who has no connection whatsoever to him or to his office, can help his candidacy. I simply admire the guy and I am convinced as I have never been before that He is the Man for the Philippine presidency. In my own little ways, I have been doing some things for his candidacy. This blog would be the latest one.
I have also done my fair share of introducing him and campaigning for him here and abroad. From cab drivers and street vendors, sales ladies and flight sterwardees, friends and families here in the Philippines to Filipino acquaintances, friends, and even strangers in Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Italy, France, Bangkok and Luxembourg, I have always made it a point to let Filipinos know how fit Mar Roxas is for the presidency.
For somebody trained in politics and social science research, it is always interesting for me to feel the political pulse of the people around me. For example, cab drivers usually favor Ping Lacson for his tough stance on mulcting cops while single women in their late 20s and 30s usually go agog over Mar Roxas and yes, even Kiko Pangilinan and Chiz Escudero. Not to mention Trillianes. Yuppies in Metro Manila generally pin their hopes on Gordon.
Anyway, this page is about Mar Roxas and so I would like to pose a question to the public. I am sure your opinion dear readers will have an impact on Mar’s aspiration for the presidency. Or if not, at least you can satisfy a curious mind.
There are two sets of questions actually. First concerns impressions about a single unattached man occupying the highest office of the land. The second one revolves around, well, lets just say its about the man and his woman.
Hence, I would like to know what you think about Mar Roxas running for the presidency as a bachelor? Would it affect his chances? Will he be perceived as emotionally “immature”? By whom generally? Married couples? Married women? What about single women? Would you like Mar Roxas to marry first before he launches his big campaign or would you accept him as he is and wait for a grand presidential wedding once he is in Malacanang?
Second order of question is, do you believe Korina Sanchez deserves President Mar Roxas? How does the thought of Korina being first lady affect Mar’s chances? How would Korina play in the Mar Roxas campaign machinery?
All readers are encouraged to post their comments from hereon. Post until our voices are heard.

I’d much rather that Mar Roxas be president while still a bachelor. In the Philippines, it is often the “first gentlemen” or “first ladies” who screw things up for the president
I just added your Page to my sidebar at http://liberalpresident2010.blogspot.com
mar doesn’t need a wife. not his current girlfriend pls. he can make it to the presidency on his own w/out her. she somehow maybe makes him feel otherwise because she thinks she wields media power. don’t be fooled. precisely because she is in media that we know her true character. and it’s not first lady material nor is it wife material. she will be the bane of his existence if he decides to do otherwise.
Mar Roxas will be the Next President of the Philippines because he is a good politician and a loyal lover he can be the president without the help from her future wife Ms Korina Sanchez in Media Because Mar has a way to charm people.
Actually, I think its is best for Mar Roxas, if elected president, to be single so that there are less distractions and drama (like u know who). Even though I don’t know Mar Roxas personally, I can tell that he is a decent man, and I don’t think Korina Sanchez will fit as first lady (if ever). Sure Ms. Sanchez can help his candidacy but we cannot always rely on what we see on TV.
Will you please further elaborate your reasons why you think Mar Roxas is eligible to become the future president of the Philippines?
i don’t see how talking about korina sanchez would be of help to someone like me who’s really interested in the issues and reform agendas. i think, after reading about mar roxas’ legislation and advocacies on education, health, tax relief and good governance, that he’s the most qualified of the candidates rumored to be running in 2010. i also think that focusing on his love life– however much media-friendly it may seem– is a disservice to the man, seeing as how he’s more focused on the issues than on the personalities and intrigues and gossip-fodder.
he himself is low-key (or, as the relatively limited media exposure might prove, not a very exciting personality,) preferring to talk about issues and advocacies rather than blowing up stuff just so he could get headlines. the more discerning citizen would have noticed this from the start. it’s sad that some critics and journalists interpret this as “fence-sitting” and not having a solid stand on things.
i think that if we’d really like to support his campaign, we should make the filipino aware of him, and his low-key, work-from-the-sidelines mentality. that, i think, would be hold better mileage than playing up his relationship with korina.
Korina sanchez as a a senior news anchor (and a celebrity now) would ofcourse have an effect on Mar Roxas’ campaign for presidency. Though, just like you sir, I believe in him. That he could make it to the 2010 election. He possess qualities of a better President (compared to the previous we had). I checked on his background, and I believe through that and his experiences he is fitted for the position.
Talking about his status, getting married before election would make a strong impact on the public. But its just the same, Mr. Palengke will always be Mr. Palengke.
Running as a bachelor will not hinder him to serve the people righteously. That may be used as a key point for him, since he will be more focused on his job.
Mar Roxas has his own identity even before he was linked to Korina Sanchez. I can’t say that Korina is a big hindrance for the political success of Mar Roxas. It is just that a person is better of thinking by his self rather than being opposed, and latter changes his mind towards the thinking of the opposer.
I haven’t decided yet on who to vote on the 2010 election [if it is to come]. But your opinions, sir, gave me an idea to look deeper and seek on what those politicians have made towards the betterment of this country.
Thank you sir.
i agree with one of the readers, i also don’t think Mar’s capability of leading the country should include his marital status or his current partner, we should focus more on his ability as a politician. if a candidate is truly fit for the position, regardless of his wife, girlfriend or fiancee, he should be able to show his intelligence in politics while not being anyway affected, either good or bad, by the partner.
more over, concentrating too much on Korina would even give him negative political image, at least i think so. honestly, before i read your blog, sir, Mar Roxas’ credibility for presidency never crossed my mind. lets all admit that Filipinos significantly rely on the media for political, or any other in that matter, information. when i kept seeing Mar with Korina on TV than those on his own showing his own achievements, i had this impression that he was relying on Korina so he would be talked.
after reading about mar’s accomplishments i must say he is indeed a worthy candidate for the presidential elections in 2010. and i would gladly support him – even work for him during this period. but i have to make further research. i want to ensure there is really no corruption involved although my friends say that cannot be possible since most politicians are really corrupt.
that’s why i want to read some of the criticisms on mar roxas. so i can form a truly objective view of him. so far i have only read supports for him.
regarding korina sanchez and mar’s civil status, i think that a candidate’s civil status should not hamper his chances for winning a particular office since the basis for electing an official is his capabilities to produce results. however, if mar does decide to marry before the elections or when he is president, i don’t think i favor korina too much. i have grown to be skeptical of what i watch in tv despite their seemingly competent and sincere looks. but then i am not in the position to judge korina. if they really love each other then who am i to hamper their happiness.
i just hope that their personal lives don’t mix with their professional lives meaning korina does not affect mar’s dedication to public service and mar is not dragged to the dirty world of showbiz.
pls sen mar, think a million times before you take the plunge w/ korina.
you are who you are because of yourself and your experiences. you are your own person. korina cannot reverse that and she should know it. you can win the presidency w/o her. she doesn’t deserve you. she would be more of a liability than an asset to you. one of the emailers got it right… she could be the bane of your existence.
her cause is more of self-preservation, if you know what i mean. she’s a me, I, my and mine person.
she is never genuine w/ people who are low-lifers. she can pretend to empathize w/ them but her true self comes through and what you see is pure smokescreen.
i wish you good luck. and again pls think a million times before you decide to settle down w/ her.
mar in 2010! god bless.
marrying someone like korina sanchez would really have an effect on sen mar roxas’ campaign but i dont see anything wrong with it…i mean it’s his personal life already, really….and i believe in him as much as my dad, or the other readers or my professor does and i dont have any doubts with what he can do for the country granted that he would be elected…
he’s a great guy and he’s a good leader with good intentions..
so..married or not married, HE IS FIT for the PRESIDENCY…
Mr Canlas.
I have read a number of posts on your blog, and I have to admit, that you seem well-versed on common media information. However, politicians are politicians. They have a way of making things appear in a way that defies reality.
I mean no offense, or at least try to, but the way you have endorsed Roxas in this entry defies reason. It sounds so much like fan worship, an unfounded sense of idolatry. Isn’t it naivete to campaign for someone across the world, just because you “admire the guy”?
Mr. Canlas, the web is the next intellectual battlefield of this modern (and still barbaric) world. Lest you want your blog to inspire useful thought, I would suggest you post opinions that are validated by actual facts. It is a crime to mislead your readers, who as i observed happen to be generally young. Mostly your students i suppose.
The world, especially the Philippines, does not need fans. We need people who value facts and base their decisions on actualities and not assumptions.
I’m just saying.
Hello Miss Hi Babe,
Thank you for your comments.
Please read some other articles I posted in the blog, including the articles “Why I am Campaigning for Mar Roxas” and the latest one on Income Tax Exemption to give you an idea why I think Mar is still the best candidate for the presidency.
Yes, I admire the guy but I am completely one with you that we do not need a fan-mentality in choosing our president. And yes, we need people who value facts and base their decision on actualities – and research – not assumptions. I just wish you could have given me more credit and more of your patience by reading more of my posts. In so doing, you would have saved yourself from declaring my choice is not based on actualities.
Anyhow, if you are really looking for a good candidate for 2010 (not necessarily for the presidency alone), I strongly suggest you read and ask about Neric Acosta. He is the epitome of new politics in the country as far as I can know. I am also campaigning for him this early for I truly believe that he can help us not only move forward but move towards the right direction too.
It is about time people like us do our share. Writing and commenting is just a small fraction of what we can do to help the country search for good leaders.
Cheers,
Pey
Well, I don’t really care if Mar Roxas is married or not before the election. What matters is that he does his job very well as a senator then as president of the Philippines.
For the past years, the presidents we had and the one we have right now mere gave false hopes for our country. They made us believe in their “CAMPAIGN SPEECHES” that really sucks on the first place (I don’t wanna be mean here). I haven’t experienced voting last election because I could not see the effect my vote would have or should i say even the main objective of voting in our country. I want change in our country yes. Everyone wants change in the Philippines, so we could be better in the coming years. So I would say that Mar Roxas would be suitable enough to be elected as a president of the Philippines – single or married.
If Mar Roxas pursued to be a candidate as a President by 2010, marrying Korina before election would lead him as the “talk of the town” knowing the Philippine politicians conducting popularity vote. Mar Roxas known by the people as Mr. Palengeke by the help of his commercial and Korina has a good image in TV and radio, even the ” wala ng batang nakapaa balang araw ” by Korina’s help to those children who’s slipper less in rural areas would help more to build Korinas image. My point is marrying Korina is actually a big help to Mar Roxas candidacy by 2010.
( but i believe PGMA would do something about it , she’s eager to stay in her office even if it’s not allowed to constitution anymore, I foresee she will make something strange by this year to 2010 .)
Mar will be marrying Korina before the elections, as repoted they are getting Kris’ baby james as their ring bearer. This will boost his political campaign. Marrying Korina will propel his candidacy. Filipinos are very traditional. A bachelor president is not acceptable. And if they would have a child that is if korina can have one, that can be more appealing.
can you talk openly on a forum about automation election? i would like to know people’s opinion. thanks
